RAID (0) vs JBOD vs Neilo

OK so going from a RAID(0) configuration to a JBOD configuration on anything less than enterprise grade hardware seems to be fraught with danger.

And by danger I mean a week of device entropy followed by complete failure, swearing, spilt beer on power board, a short but very painful walk in the dark to the RCD switch in the meter box.

Closely followed by more swearing, hours of trawling useless vendor support forums for ambiguous and sometimes outrageously incorrect quackery thinly veiled as what some people are calling a solution >-(

Sorry ******* in this case JBOD stands for Just a Bunch of Dicks...

The cost of your failure so far :

  1. Complete Technet Subscription ISO's $$$$$$$$ (recoverable from MS but substantial quota involved to get them all  back)
  2. A not unsubstantial iTunes library around the $1800 mark
  3. Photo's, Artwork, Lyrics and Music from original compositions - We'll let the people decide what that's worth
  4. 16 hours of my own personal time charged at what my company's standard consulting rate dictates : $1840
  5. Fee for pissing me right off, let's just say this figure looks a lot like the number 8 laying on its side (probably because it had lost the will to live trying to recover one of your small scale Soho NAS devices)
  6. Fee for colleague to deliver a device to initiate recovery and far more reliable and consistent alternative, in this case a house brick. $200ph at 1.5 * minimum 2hr callout fee $600
The thing that should really worry you is the often fickle and outrageous value people will put on art, I would consider settling out of court for... oooh I don't know... A 51% controlling share of your blackened souls.

BTW the two Hitachi 1TB drives are perfectly fine and have passed their Spin Rite tests.

It seems the Duplo Grade Door Stop you managed to sell me is clearly labelled WRONGLY!!! It should say RAID (0), (1) features our new DISK WIPE JBOD utility.

Sincerely, (UP) Yours

Neil PIckersgill

PS. I'll start  being nice when you stop being stupid.
